This week I can show you the things I made using some new fabric from Poppie Cotton called Kissin’ in the Moonlight. It has some pretty pastels but also a soft autumn feel, which is perfect for this time of year.

First up, a new fall dress for me! I’ve had this vintage pattern for a 1950s dress with a scalloped shawl collar detail for YEARS and just never got around to making it. I wasn’t quite sure I would like it on me, since I don’t usually like patterns that emphasize my shoulders.

But it paired really well with this beautiful soft floral, so I decided to try it. I barely squeeze out the pattern pieces, and ended up having to cut the sleeves cross-ways.

The construction is quite unique. The scalloped capelet part is actually also part of the dress bodice facing, so that meant I had to put it together in what felt like a backward manner.

I had the perfect brown vintage buttons to pair it with.

So despite my misgivings, and the unique construction challenges, I quite like the result.

This floral works well for a late 1950s style like this.

I also really loved the cherry print, however, so I also decided to make some ruffled zipper bags. Only THIS time I decided to write down the measurements and process, and make a pattern out of it, which is available in my Etsy shop here.

It includes two sizes, and is intended to be very basic and easy. But of course it also would be a great pattern to add in some fun appliqué or trim, etc.

I love to use this style of bag for projects, but they can also be super useful for organizing, toiletries, etc.

So there are my two different projects using Kissin’ in the Moonlight, and there are so many other possibilities with all the pretty fabrics! Have fun with your autumn sewing.
