One of the new Poppie Cotton fabric lines for fall this year was this low-volume collection. It’s not my favorite color combo, but I picked a few prints out to play with – I especially love the pink apple print, and those adorable goats and chickens!

I ended up making 3 different projects with it. First I made a scalloped half apron, using a vintage 1940s apron pattern from my collection.

I’ve made this one before, so it was super quick and easy. I love the pretty scallop detail, and using a pink border on the bottom really made the scallops stand out.

The scalloped waistband adds the perfect finishing touch. This will be such a fun apron to wear this fall for baking and canning days!

I also wanted to make some smaller size Japanese rice bags, featuring some fussy cutting with the novelty prints.

I had made this one before starting with 10″ squares, and it was quite large – so this time I made a 6″ and 8″ size, and absolutely love both of them.

I had been considering giving them as gifts, but now that I see how cute they are, I may have changed my mind! 🙂

For the smaller one I made 4 diamond in a square blocks, fussy cutting the center diamond. Each side is different, which adds a fun touch.

I had messed up the points when sewing the sides together, so I added some cute buttons to cover them up and actually love the detail it adds! Sometimes a mistake can become an improvement. 🙂

I used some yellow apple print (another favorite) for the lining and handle loops, and had just the right amount of twine in my sewing stash to make a rustic drawstring.

For the larger bag I started with 8″ squares, but just made 2 diamond in a square blocks, and plain squares for the alternate sides and bottom.

I love how they match but yet are unique, and how well they sit even though I just used regular cotton quilt batting – no stiff stabilizer.

They are a great size for project bags, and it’s so nice to have them sit open on the flat bottom. They were both super quick to make and I would definitely make more in the future.

My final project was a toss pillow for the living room, and again I featured my favorite pink apple print. I top stitched a wide band across the front of a rectangular piece of fabric, with narrow ruffles tucked under each side.

Then finished the back with a zipper opening to secure a pillow form. It will be a lovely pastel autumn addition to my living room decor, once I switch it out for fall.

It’s so fun to see how that even fabric I don’t initially feel inspired by can turn into projects I absolutely love! I’m so happy to have sewn with this, and am delighted to have had the opportunity.
