Berry and Sage by Lori Holt is one of my favorite new recent collections. I love it so much that I’ve already made a quilt top in it, and have plans to join the sew along for the Strawberry Crush quilt along also, as well as some smaller projects – I just can’t get enough of it!

But with several of the prints I knew right away I wanted to make a set of 1940s separates in the geometric green with a pop of floral. Then I expanded my original idea to also include a floral skirt so I could mix and match. Here is the finish!

These are the vintage patterns I used. Both fabrics are currently stocked here.

The first outfit is a 1940s classic WWII style, with the floral just used as an accent.

I had made this pattern before, and done the ruffle as the sketch shows, but this time I decided to add a wider tapered ruffle at the neck. I really like how that detail turned out.

It has the simple lines of war-restricted sewing from that era.

I paired it with a raspberry beret, cute repro suede heels from Rocket Originals, my favorite vintage gloves, and a modern bag because it matched so well.

The second outfit fits more in a post-war or early 1950s style since the skirt is longer and quite full, but not as wide as the mid-50s would become.

I like how feminine this version is. The floral definitely takes center stage here, and it’s SUCH a pretty print!

My other adaptation to the blouse pattern was that I made shorter ties and tied them in the front instead of as a back sash.

Of course I can also wear these pieces paired with other skirts and blouses as well, if I wish. Definitely one of the fun things about sewing separates!

I keep trying to pick a favorite combo out of the two, but I’m just not sure which I like better! It’s fun to have some versatility, depending on my inclination for the day.
