A few years ago I snagged a few yards of my very favorite print in the Julia fabric line by Moda. The whole line was delightful, but the larger daisies & cherries & polka dots on the perfect shade of aqua was hands down just perfection (it also came in yellow and navy). I got a dress length of it at some point when it went on sale, but then got pregnant and never sewed with it.
Last fall I made this dress, but it was so close to Advent that I didn’t get photos of it until now! It’s been pressed and waiting, hanging in my room until spring. Today I finally got a chance to wear it.

I paired it with a 1940s pattern I hadn’t made for probably 11 or 12 years, but instead of a self collar and ruffle (which is hard to get to look right with quilting cotton) I opted for this lovely vintage collar which I’ve had for ages, waiting until the right project. I think it was a perfect match for this one!

It’s a pretty straightforward shirtwaist dress pattern, so it came together quickly. I added a facing and narrow white lace trim to the sleeves, to tie in the collar.

It’s such a cheery fabric, it makes me happy to wear it! I’m also chipping away at a quilt top using the whole line. This makes me want to pick up that languishing project again now.

The buttons are probably from the 1930s – a find many years ago at an antique store, I think. I’m delighted to give them a whole new turn in the limelight. I just love the molded floral details!

Now that it’s spring, I have a bunch of new projects waiting to get photographed, but this was top of the list as it’s been waiting since last fall. It’s always fun to try yet another variation on a tried-and-true classic style!

Naturally I had to lean into the cherry theme with my jewelry choices!

I always enjoy the process of taking a flat piece of fabric off a shelf, and turning it into something with character and personality. It’s one of the best things about sewing – or really, crafting of any type. So much potential in a ball of yarn or handful of embroidery colors!

I hope you all are having a lovely April! See you later this week with another fun little set of spring projects. 😉
