Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where I occasionally share some of my (many) projects when they’re finished, and ramble about them a little bit!
I used to hate sewing (and shuddered at the mere thought of quilting!) but eventually succumbed to the lure of pretty fabric when I discovered vintage sewing patterns with their beautiful details and fit, becoming an avid seamstress and 1930s-1950s historical fashion nerd. That is mostly what I share here on this blog. I have a lot of smaller projects which don’t make it here, which you can see my progress on over on Instagram.
Some years later I picked up quilting, and now have more recently published some counted cross stitch and quilt designs as well. I love feminine, retro fashion to wear or for the home, and have a constant, shifting pile of various projects; my to-stitch list is always much longer than time allows! I’m delighted to be a fabric ambassador for Poppie Cotton, and also part of the Connecting Threads affiliates.
I am at least a 4th generation crocheter; my grandma taught me my first crochet stitch when I was 6. I picked it up seriously as a teen and became a freelance crochet designer when I was 19, publishing my own patterns and also contributing to many yarn companies and crochet magazines over the years. I still get a little thrill out of seeing my name on a magazine page, or picking up a ball of yarn and finding one of my designs on the label.
I sell some of my patterns as well as random vintage and destash items in my Etsy shop JoysinStitches, and also have a vintage sewing supply shop The Timely Tailor filled with beautiful repro fabric and unique buttons & notions for the vintage seamstress.
I love making my home in beautiful rural Idaho, among lots of old books, daily baking adventures and afternoon teatimes; sharing life with my husband and 5 sweet littles.
