Today I’m going to share a few fun quilty things I made recently with a very colorful new fabric line called Hey, Love Bug by Poppie Cotton. It’s not my usual style of fabric, but my children loved it so I thought I would make a few things for them.

First up were easy reversible quilted bibs, which I badly needed in order to replace the ones I’ve used for 8 years. Mine were absolutely disintegrating, so it was high time for a new batch!

To make these, I simply paired 2 fat quarters together with cotton batting and quilted them, then traced around one of the old bibs and cut it out. I could get 2 bibs per fat quarter sandwich, plus some leftovers.

Then I just had to bind the edges. I used 1/4″ purchased binding for this since it was a quick project. Each one can be worn either way up, so I got double the look for the bib amount made. My little fella was so pleased with his new bibs!

With the leftovers I sewed up a couple of zipper pouches, using no pattern.

The hexagon fabric is my favorite in this line! This zipper pouch is a great size for toiletries, organization, small projects, etc.

For this one I should probably have looked up how much to trim out to make a box corner first…but it still turned out cute.

The last thing I made was a set of easy pencil pouches for my children to keep with their school supplies. I let them each choose their favorite fabric.

I followed this pattern for the most part, and discovered I quite like using felt instead of batting for a project like this. It gives more structure than batting, and you don’t have to have another layer inside, so it saves fabric too, as long as you don’t mind having an exposed seam inside. I trimmed mine with my scalloped pinking shears, so it’s still cute.

My only change was to bind the top edges and do an inside zipper, instead of the exterior zipper shown. These were super fast, and my children loved their pouches!

That’s all for today. Follow Poppie Cotton on Instagram to see all the different fun projects shared to showcase this fabric line.
