It’s my day to share what I’ve made recently with My Darling Deer fabric – a new fabric line by Poppie Cotton. It has a soft palette and lots of pretty woodland prints. I picked a few favorites to sew a couple of fun little things.

First up I picked my favorite lavender birdie print to make my little 4-year-old a new shirt. I used a 1950s pattern – missing the instructions so good thing I’ve had a lot of experience!

Another favorite print was the lavender leaf one, which I used to make the contrasting collar and sleeve bands. Rather than gathering the puff sleeves into cuffs, I just ran some elastic through them.

I had one card of the perfect purple buttons in the perfect amount and color!

Then I also made a coordinating reversible skirt to go with it. One side is purple with peach accents, one is solid peach.

Instant style change depending on which side is out!

I’m not completely happy with how this version turned out, but sometimes you have to try something out just to see if it works!

She was very happy with her new outfit.

But all this didn’t use any of my favorite blue prints – and there are some beautiful ones in this collection! – so I naturally had to sew something with them yet. I have a lot of projects on the go, and was needing more project bags large enough to hold a full size sheet of paper when I print out instructions.

I used a project bag I already owned as a size template, and started with a butterfly block pattern by My Sew Quilty life. After piecing the butterfly, I added fabric to make it the right size.

I played around with trim ideas and came up with using a woven ribbon trim – LOVE how it turned out!

I dug in my charm stash and found the perfect little green bow charm to finish it with. It’s definitely one of my favorite project bags so far and I promptly used it for my newest cross stitch, and now am planning another similar project bag. Can’t have too many!

The back is just plain, but I love how well it shows off that pretty blue birdie fabric.

If you like woodland themed fabric, definitely check this fabric out. I didn’t even end up using the cute little main deer print, but you can see it on display in so many lovely and creative ways if you check out the other creators on this fabric tour. 🙂
