I made and photographed this dress back in September – here it finally is on the blog!

I’ve made this pattern at least 3 times previously and have loved it as it’s a rare 1930s pattern that fits me well. I knew it would be a great fit for this super fun repro plaid fabric from The Timely Tailor.

Every time I try to change it up a bit so I don’t have a bunch of the same dress in my wardrobe. This time I added a white eyelet collar and flip-up cuffs.

It’s so colorful! It was hard to nail down what color to use to accent with buttons and belt, but I had the perfect amount of these art deco buttons in my box so I ended up choosing red. But it would have quite a different look if you went with sky blue or that golden yellow!

I love how the plaid fabric is actually a rope print – makes it more interesting!

The other change I did was making the center bodice meet in the middle instead of slanting it from side to side to expose center panel in a V, like in previous versions.

Since I’ve made it so often, it was a pretty fast and straightforward finish. I do need to go back and tack down the cuffs as the eyelet was too slippery and wouldn’t hold a crease.

I know it’s more of a summer dress, but I really wanted to get it made quickly while the weather was still warm even though I knew it wouldn’t be worn much.

Here I paired it with some favorite 1930s repro shoes from Remix Vintage Shoes, and a versatile beret in the right shade of red.

I rarely get a chance to wear gloves now except for photos, so I had to grab my most dramatic 1930s gauntlets since this is such a classic 1930s style.

I will put it away now for the fall and winter season, but it will be fun to pull it out again next spring!
