I’ve been so looking forward to sewing with this new Elea Lutz fabric line by Poppie Cotton! It has so many good colors and prints, in my favorite vintage style. I knew I wanted to make a dress in one of them, but it was certainly hard to choose among all the lovely options.

I ended up with some yardage of the main floral in blue. (I love how large the print is, since it’s often hard to find larger scale prints for garments.)
I paired it with a simple 1940s dress pattern that I’ve made several times already.

It has pretty triple dart tucks on the shoulders, which is my favorite detail and provides very nice fulness for the bodice. The rest of it is quite simple, as needful, to go with the busy fabric.

I did swap out a sleeve pattern for a different 1940s sleeve, which I’d made last year for my 4th of July dress. I can’t quite fit back into that one yet, so I thought it would be fun to put them on a dress I can currently wear!

With all the colors it was hard to settle on which color to accent for the buttons, but I ended up choosing these stunning carved deep blue flower buttons from The Timely Tailor.

The hat and bag are vintage; the shoes are some favorite repros from American Duchess that I wanted to give another outing before the warm weather disappears.

I was very pleased with how the dress turned out, and got a lot of compliments on the pretty fabric the first time I wore it.

But of course, as always, I had to find a way to use a lot more of the beautiful prints available, so I made a pattern I’ve wanted to make for a while – Under the Stars by Camille Roskelley.

It went super quickly. The stars were fun to make, with a genius fast and easy method for making quarter square triangles.

I had to use some of the prints twice, but I did enjoy playing with the different pairings so that none are the same.

I used another favorite print for the binding, and custom quilted it myself.

My favorite quilting detail is the freehand feathers alternating directions in the pink bars.

There have been so many pretty makes with this fabric line already! It’s always so inspirational to see the immense variety available while using the same fabric. I’m so happy to get to share my own contribution!
